Fall is when Ontario gets serious about renovations. The humidity’s gone, contractors are back from cottage season, and there’s a natural deadline hanging over everything: get it done before the holidays.
But before the first cabinet comes down or the first wall goes up, there’s a question most reno plans skip: where does everything go?
A kitchen reno means appliances, dishes, and furniture need somewhere to live for weeks. A basement reno means everything down there (bins, holiday decorations, the kids’ old toys) needs to come up and out. A whole-home reno means, well, everything.
Without a plan, that everything ends up piled in the garage under a tarp, stacked in the hallway, or crammed into a spare room that was supposed to stay usable. Dust gets into fabric and electronics. Boxes get in the contractor’s way. And somehow the six-week project turns into a ten-week one, because nobody can move around their own house.
Moving your things into a storage unit for the length of the reno solves most of that in one step.
