Home-Staging – How to Avoid the Stress!

12.17.2018

Getting your home packed up and readied for sale does not have to be a stressful process. Yes, packing and decluttering can be a renewing and uplifting process for many but for some it can induce stress and anxiety. Packing up those personal belongings that make your home a place of individuality and comfort can lead many people into a cycle of stress and anxiety that makes dealing with a move even more difficult.

By being methodical, organized and using a self-storage facility, many people can make home-staging and moving an easier process that isn’t to be loathed. By following a few simple tips, you can be ready for your open house sooner than you think:

  • Secure a self-storage locker. This will allow you to keep your beloved heirlooms and personal items in a safe and secure place through the sale and moving process.
  • Pack like things together (i.e. framed pictures, knick-knacks, decorative items) and label the box clearly with specific contents and room location. For Example: MASTER BEDROOM – framed pictures and decorative vase from Granny. This will make unpacking much easier for you.
  • Take items to your storage unit as you complete packing up. It will help free up space in the home and give you a sense of accomplishment as you work through each room in your home.
  • Don’t feel pressured to give away or sell things you aren’t ready to part with. Moving these treasured items to a storage locker, will give you some time to decide if your items will fit in your new home.

By removing your beloved treasured items from your home, you are freeing up space for those small repairs and improvements to be completed prior to the for sale sign going up. Sometimes it is these little details that will earn top-dollar in a competitive selling market.

Also, by putting these items in a self-storage site, you are ensuring that they will be safe and secure. With contractors, realtors and potential buyers in your house (often when you are not there), your items will be safely out of sight, in your storage unit and not available to be damaged, lost or stolen during this time of transition.
